I want someone who doesn’t need me to stamp my feet to get some help, who takes initiative with the kids and the house, whose mind is not elsewhere all the time. Somebody who does things because he wants to do his share, not just to get me off his back. I need to really feel like I have another half.

I always thought I would quit working when I had kids. Sometimes this knowledge can make women feel unmotivated to have a thriving career early in life. After all, what’s the point when it’s only temporary? However, for me it was the opposite.

I am living my childhood dream of owning my own business. To top that off, I make sweets all day and get to decorate cakes for a living — two things that constantly bring smiles to peoples’ faces. My daughters understand what I do and are proud of me. So I can confidently tell you that leaving a corporate job to turn your passion into a profession can be immensely fulfilling, as long as you don’t go about it haphazardly.

For a busy working mom, the holidays can be a wonderful time to spend time with friends and family and to drink in all the joy and festivities of the season. And as joyful as this time of year is, it can leave you feeling more rushed and depleted than ever. Maybe you find yourself busily preparing for travels, guests, parties, presents, meals, or any of the other aspects of holiday madness.

Believe it or not, this is the perfect time for a year-end ritual. As December turns into January something special–almost magical–happens. It’s as if a door to the old closes and new doors and opportunities invite us in. It is a time of hope, possibility, and fresh starts.
