Do the holidays tend to put a crunch in your pocketbook? Are you dreading the crowds and lines at the mall? Here’s an idea you might consider: Homemade gifts. They’re perfect for the person who has everything because they add a personal touch. Here are a few I’m going to try this year:

Candles – The wax is fairly inexpensive and I found the cutest Christmas jars at Wal-Mart for $1.50 each. Get the wicks that have a metal ring on one end. Use a hot glue gun to attach the ring to the bottom of the jar. Wrap the top of the wick around a pencil and lay it across the jar to keep the wick up while you pour the wax in. Melt the wax in a sauce pan and when it’s melted use a funnel to pour it into a jar. Let the wax cool. To make it even more personal add a ribbon with a little note saying, “You warm my heart because__________.” Get creative! Bath Salts – If you find cute little jars like I did, stock up. They are great for bath salts as well. You can get the exact materials needed at http://www.holidayorganizer.com. This site has some excellent ideas and even printable gift tags!

Gift Baskets – Go to your local Dollar or 99-Cent store for several good sized baskets. Grab a few pairs of body wash mittens while you’re there. Put the bath salts, candle and mittens in the basket and you’ve just made a great gift for any woman (sorry guys!) for under $15! I know these gifts are mainly for women. If you’ve got any great “guy gifts,” send them my way!
