Various Homemade Gifts
Snowman Soup
Have you ever heard of *Snowman Soup* ? No? Place instant cocoa, 2 Hershey kisses, a small handful of marshmallows, and a candy cane into a sandwich bag. Tie a pretty ribbon around it and place it into a Mr. Snowman hot/cold cup with this poem.
Was told you’ve been real good this year
Always glad to hear it
With freezing weather drawing near
You’ll need to warm the spirit
So here’s a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick
Add hot water, sip it slow
It’s sure to do the trick!
Well, you don’t need the Mr. Snowman hot/cold cups. Any winter time themed mug will do. But if you would like to see Mr. Snowman, visit http://organizedchristmas.com/article64.html.
I hope you find him as cute as I do!…Most sincerely, Candyce Fulford

Fuzzy Bedroom Slippers
I read your post on Digital Women about suggestions for homemade gifts. If you know how to crochet you could possibly make some fuzzy bedroom shoes, pot holders, throw pillows, and stuffed animals. These can be made fairly quickly and everyone seems to love them. I make the bedroom shoes for my family and everytime they wear out I get request for another pair! Hope this helps…. Helen Smith

Memoirs and Such
Speaking of homemade gifts I’d like to share something. I am a member of a clutter group where we get support to help us declutter our home. I have a long way to go, believe me. But I have a lot of new items I’ve put away over the years for gifts. Anyway, there was a point to this email. Yes, you can make gifts, but what about sharing something new or good as new with someone.
For instance, for my niece’s birthday I didn’t have money to buy her a gift. I had to bring her son a gift for his 7th birthday, a gift for her birthday and something for the new baby. So I gave her a piece of my own jewelry.
It was a gift of love and memory because she knows it was mine. So when she wears it she’ll think of me, as when I wear a necklace my aunt gave me, I think of her.
Check around and see what you have that can be a good gift. It can be a good as new book, for instance. I have several books I bought on sale that I never got a chance to read. How about a Christmas item? Every year after Christmas I’d shop for those 75% sale items and put them away. So if you have new Christmas items why not share them by giving them to someone on your Christmas list. I gave one of my Christmas houses to a friend. She was so thrilled because she’d been wanted to start collecting them.
I did start out this fall planning on making gifts such as afghans which I now called Crochet blankets, for obvious reasons. I haven’t finished the two I’ve started. I was way too ambitious on that one. However, I still might finish a couple before Christmas.
Another idea that will work depending on the person you give it to is a photo album. I bought pretty albums with pastel colors at the Christmas Shop for $1.00 each. They each hold 50 photos. I can scan photo copies or put 4 photos on a page and have them copied at Office Max. Fill the books with favorite photos. For instance, for my aunt in Arizona, I did a story photo album of what we’d done during the year since I hadn’t seen her. For my sister I did a photo album of her grandchildren.
One Christmas I gave select family members copies of my poems which I had collected and put into loose leaf binders.
If I can finish in time, this year, I’ll give a few family members copies of the memoirs I have finished. Instead of a looseleaf book I’m going to have them spiral bound with a laminated cover at Office Max.

Gift Cups
What I often do at Christmas time is make gift cups.. I take little gourmet coffees or candies, cello and bows and give them as gifts. If you have a dollar store, you can buy cups there. This is a good idea for adults.
