No chocolate on Mothers' Day? NOT!
by Michelle Schad
No chocolate on Mothers' Day? NOT! And did you know
that recent research is starting to claim that
chocolate is good for you? With that in mind, here's a
tip and a few recipe ideas that are really "good for
you."
To make dipping chocolate of manageable consistency
for candies and other treats, add shortening, peanut
or vegetable oil in a ratio of 1 tablespoon grease to
6 - 8 ounces of solid chocolate and melt them
together.
(See other tips at
http://www.cooking-tips.com for melting advice.)
Dip fruits, pretzel rods, or favorite nuts. I like
banana's on sticks, dip them, then freeze. You have a
banana pop! Great treats for when your kids come home
from school! Try adding some sprinkles or chopped nuts
to your dipped pretzels or fruit.
How about making dipped strawberries for your mom on
Mother's Day!
Another Great Idea!
Raspberry Slush
1 pint frozen raspberries, thawed (or fresh - crushed
and strained)
12 ounces frozen lemonade
1 envelope raspberry Kool-Aid
1/4 cup sugar
1 quart frozen plain or vanilla yogurt (softened a
little for easier mixing)
1/2 large can pineapple juice
Mix ingredients and freeze. Use ice cream scoop to
fill glass half full with slush mix, and finish
filling with either white or sour soda. You can
adjust the slush mix in the glass to your preference.
Strawberry Daiquiri
2-16 ounce cans frozen strawberries
1-12 ounce can orange juice
1-12 ounce can lemonade
1-12 ounce can water
Put in blender until well mixed. Freeze. Stir after
1 1/2 hours. Again, as above, use ice cream scoop to
fill glass half full with slush mix, and finish
filling with either white or sour soda. I
Stirring a couple of times while freezing would aide
in an "easier to scoop" slush.
