Pet Tales
The Eternal Kitten
by Sharon Hall
Hi!! My name's Tigger. Out of my meowmies four cats, I'm the youngest, and the cutest. I'm pretty smart too. I learned how to open the screen door by watching my mom. I used to get on the potato bin in the kitchen to reach the door handle.
One day, Scruffy and Puddy Tat ( my fur brothers ) were waiting for me to open the door so we could go outside and play with that squirrel that lives in the tree out back. I had the door almost opened far enough for Puddy to push it out when mom came in the kitchen and caught us. When she found out I could push down the door handle, she moved the potato bin away from the door.
My mom says I'm 'plump'. I don't think I'm plump. I'm just 'husky'. I only eat dry food too. I don't like the stuff that comes in cans. And I don't like human food much either. She says she can't understand how I got so big when I used to be such a tiny little thing. Well, a cats gotta eat when he's gotta eat.
I like to play the most. I can play for hours and hours and hours. I like the round toy with the ball inside. I can stick my paw in the hole and make the ball go round and round.
I like to play with that soft paper humans have in their bathrooms too. It comes on rolls and it's fun to unwind and make a nice pile to lay on. Wads of paper are fun to chase after too, and if I can't find any paper balls anywhere, there are always some in the waste basket in my moms computer room I can dig out to play with.
I love the toy mouse the best. My mom takes the mouse toy and throws it far so I have to run and get it. I'll grab it, run over to the hallway and slide it under the closet door. Then I'll try to get it back out. My mom calls me a 'stinker' cuz I make her open the closet door to get the toy out again. We play this game all the time. I think my mom hides the mouse when it gets to be nighttime though. It has a tinkle bell and makes a noise I like. I play with it late when mom is trying to sleep. I think she hides it cuz she's jealous that I am playing our game without her.
I'll take plastic milk bottle rings and drop them in my moms shoe, then try to fish for them. I drop toys in between the cushions on the couch, then try to retrieve them. I like to make my games challenging in that way. ( I told you I was smart ) I have a LOT of toys and paper balls stashed under all the furniture and under the refrigerator. It's like Christmas when mom cleans under everything and I can play with all the toys I haven't seen in a while.
Another fun time is when the humans are playing at their computers. I like watching that arrow thing move on the picture screen. I try to catch it. I haven't yet, but I've come pretty close.
It is also fun to knock stuff off the tables. I watch mom while she stacks her quarters, and after she is done counting them, I like to go over and knock the nice, neat stacks she made on the floor. They make a really cool sound when they fall. My mom must love when I do that, because it always makes her laugh. I do a lot of things to make her laugh.
Oh!!! I think it's time to go play now. Bye!
