Waldoboro, ME (PRWEB) April 26, 2010 — When a small group of Pittsburgh filmmakers, led by Waldoboro native Lucas McNelly, decided to embark on a Twitter-based challenge to make a feature-length film in just two weeks, they never imagined that one year later the result of their labor would be screening in a multiplex alongside the likes of “Iron Man 2″ and “Robin Hood”.

But on May 14th, “Blanc de Blanc” will start a one week engagement at the Flagship Cinemas in Thomaston, Maine.

“Blanc de Blanc” — a jigsaw puzzle of a film that has confounded and delighted audiences around the world — is the story of David (Jason Kirsch), a man who comes to Pittsburgh with nothing more than the contents of his backpack and falls in love with a benevolent nurse (Rachel Shaw) whom he meets on the street — only there are elements of his past that aren’t quite done with him yet.

Reviews for “Blanc de Blanc” have been glowing. Michigan-based producer Tom Russell called it “a mystery with real staying power” that was “stylish, fun, mysterious — and, above all, highly recommended.” Cult movie icon Pericles Lewnes of the Annapolis Pretentious Film Society said the film “transcends genre labels and elbows it’s way into a rarefied class of Indie Film that is pleasantly thought provoking and meticulously hand made for a smart audience by a brilliantly talented director.”

Director Lucas McNelly, who was born and raised in nearby Waldoboro, Maine and is a 1997 graduate of Coastal Christian High School in Nobleboro, will be in town to meet with audiences and answer questions.

Today is the day that filming ends in Pittsburgh for The Twitter 2wkfilm challenge.

“what started as a joke between a couple of filmmakers on Twitter turned into a challenge: make a feature-length film in two weeks. Yes, two weeks. And I know what you’re thinking, that’s an insane idea. True, but that’s exactly why it’s a great one.

You spend two weeks in hell making a film that no one expects to be any good at all. And if you can clear that hurdle and make something people actually want to see, you’ve got a film that you can say, “We made this in two weeks on a Twitter challenge”. That’s a pretty good promotional hook, don’t you think? There’s festivals that would love to show a film like that.

And if it’s terrible? Oh well. I doubt anyone will hold that against us.

The rules (such as they are): feature-length (60+ min), have 2 weeks from start of filming to fine cut (but not final cut, so we can color correct and whatever before sending to festivals), and it must be done by the end of May.”
